About Nanotechnology

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have been leading actions related to nanotechnologies and manufactured nanomaterials.

Additions to the Global Plan of Action related to this area were endorsed at ICCM3.  In doing so, the Conference recommended the development of international technical and regulatory guidance and training materials for the sound management of manufactured nanomaterials. It also invited relevant international organizations to continue to support efforts to facilitate capacity-building information exchange, develop guidance and training materials and support public dialogue regarding nanotechnologies and manufactured nanomaterials.

All Strategic Approach stakeholders are encouraged to facilitate the exchange of information on nanotechnologies and manufactured nanomaterials in order to improve global transparency and allow better decision-making processes.
